Syndrome of crest

Crest syndrome is the most generalized form of scleroderma; This is a systemic sclerosis, CREST syndrome means

C – calcinosis, this includes calcium deposits under the skin, fingers and other areas of the body.
R – Raynaud’s phenomenon where there is a spasm of blood cells inside blood vessels, this can occur due to stress or due to cold,
E – Esophageal dysfunction which causes difficulty in swallowing
S – Sclerodactyly, this conditions causes tightening of skin, therefore fingers bend.
T – Telangiectasia, this means that there are dilated vessels either on face, fingers or inside mouth.

In order to identify Crest syndrome, it is not necessary that all the above five symptoms should be present. This disease can be identified by only two symptoms also. This autoimmune disease can affect a person on a small scale or on a large scale when his vital organs are affected with this disease.

This disease can be genetic, someone in the family should have a history of autoimmune diseases. Therefore, scleroderma cannot be taken care of medically. Scleroderma, can become worse by each passing day. Therefore a person suffering from this disease requires to take care all by himself, since there are no known medications available.

Self care for Crest syndrome involves the person to exercise regularly, since staying active will help weight control as well as prevent body from contacting another series of illnesses like the heart disease or blood pressure, etc. Regular exercising will also help you reduce pain and stress which you might experience through this syndrome.

Living a healthy lifestyle is also required. Healthy lifestyle should ensure that there is no smoking as well as drinking either. Smoking causes blood vessels to contract therefore, it might make things worse for Raynaud’s syndrome.

Self care will also involve taking care of your own self and protecting against cold, good blood circulation is required if it is required that the blood circulation remains absolutely normal so as not to increase any further complications in the disease. If going out you should take care to wear proper clothing which will ensure that enough warmth will be provided to the body.

In order to prevent further complications of this disease it is necessary that gastrointestinal tract is taken care of properly, this is to avoid, any further complications and infection of the disease to this tract, since this disease can be fatal if it affects any of the vital organs.
