FIGHT IKON, PRESS RELEASE

October 9th 2011 brings the ninth instalment of Mixed Martial Arts action under the Fight Ikon brand from Sherlock Promotions, sponsored by Body Active. Body Active provides supplementation to all the fighters who take part in the event.

Fight Ikon Goes from Strength to Strength

With the massive growth of MMA in the UK we have seen numerous new events on the circuit but Fight Ikon has continued to grow from strength to strength. Since its inception in 2009; due to the standard it has set and continues to raise on the domestic MMA circuit, its reputation has rapidly grown. The primary goals of the event were to bring about a production which was focused around the fighters, with quality matchmaking and high standards for both fighters and fans alike. It was the first UK show outside of the UFC to introduce Blood testing for Pro fighters for HIV, Hep B & C. The show is fully sanctioned & insured with the promoters motto being ‘attention to detail’ being evident to those who have attended. The show was this year awarded Promotion of the Year by its sanctioning body the ISKA and also voted as one of the UK’s top 5 best shows as well as high acclaim from other leading MMA media. It was described this year by Lee Hasdell of the ISKA UK as “Their Flagship Event”.

Once again the fight card is stacked and looking to deliver some amazing matches. Heading the bill is the current ISKA English Welterweight Champion Avi Jack from Manchester Predators who will be defending his title against Wolfslair’s Gavin Sterritt, who is fresh off a win on the last Fight Ikon event. Avi who is undefeated at Pro level has proved well rounded after submission wins, a recent quick TKO victory over Andy DeVent and also gone the distance a few times in his semi pro career. Gavin is an incredibly tough contender who also has wins by TKO and submission as well as being the current UCC title holder. This fight alone is one of the most eagerly anticipated fights of the year and set to be highly explosive.

In the previous eight Ikon events there have only ever been 2 title matches ever, as promoter Darren Sherlock strongly believes in withholding the value of titles by only selecting worthy opponents to fight for them. We see many shows with made up titles being fought for by fighters with negative records but Sherlock refuses to allow this on his events. The ISKA is also an Internationally recognised title too, so not just prevalent to a single event but part of a Worldwide network therefore a very prestigious belt to hold. However, on the next event there is yet another title up for grabs as the undefeated Gaz Pilot from Manchester Predators faces the undefeated Mahmood Bersharate from Leicester Shoot Fighters / Team Rough House for the vacant ISKA English Bantamweight Title and as they say “somebody’s ‘0’ has got to go!”

Also featuring in the Pro ranks are two more spectacular matches. At Middleweight we will see Wolfslair’s former UCC champion Alex Minogue face Joe Deeney from the newly formed Immortal MMA in Milton Keynes. Then at Featherweight there is also East Lancs Predators coach Rob Freedman in his second Pro match facing the tough Danny Welsh; fighting at his most comfortable weight of u66kg. Added to this there are a whole host of fights at Amateur A (3X4 with Ground and Pound), Amateur B (3X3 headshots standing only) and one warm up match at Amateur C (no headshots). At Amateur A Class ones to watch for are Graham Mealand from Jason Tan’s Liverpool MMA Academy against Dave Irvine from Sukatta MMA at Light Heavyweight and at Welterweight Salford MMA’s (Sherlock’s own gym) Lee Whitehead will face Dez Parker from Sukatta MMA.

In addition to the fights the show also provides entertainment breaks with music by Cool Shades Records, Dance/Tricks by Butterfly Twist and the gorgeous Fight Ikon ring girls provided by AAA Promotions. It all takes place at 3pm on Sunday 9th October at Ikon Nightclub in Bolton. To buy etickets to the event online, please visit www.fightikon.com or also available from any of the fighters in advance from just £25. This will be a sell out event, as have been the past Fight Ikon events, especially with what looks to be the strongest card to date.
