Ronnie Coleman




Ronnie Coleman, aka “Big Ron”, is one of the world’s most famous bodybuilders. Born in 1964 in Bastrop, LA, Coleman is tied with Lee Haney for a record of 8 consecutive Mr. Olympia wins. He has won every year from 1998 to 2005. In addition to the Mr. Olympia wins, he has won numerous championships and titles. Some of the most notable include:

  • Mr. Texas in 1990
  • Mr. Universe in 1991
  • Canada Pro Cup in 1995 and 1996
  • Grand Prix Russia in 1997 and 2003
  • Night of the Champions in 1998
  • Grand Prix Finland and Germany in 1998
  • Grand Prix England in 1999 and 2004
  • World Pro Championships in 1999
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic in 2001
  • New Zealand Grand Prix in 2001
  • Grand Prix Holland in 2002 and 2004

Ronnie Coleman holds a record for all of his wins. In Holland in November 2004, he broke Vince Taylor’s record of 22 wins. His training includes simple compound movements with free weights and powerlifting. He has never been one to use machines, and trains six days a week during on-season.

Before becoming a professional bodybuilder, Coleman attended Grambling State University and obtained an accounting degree. During college, he played football under well-known coach Eddie Robinson. After college, Coleman went through police training and became an officer. In 2001, he was given one his most prestigious awards: the 2001 Admiral in the Texas Navy Certificate. Texas Governor Perry gave Ronnie Coleman this award for his outstanding physical fitness achievements.

In 2007, Coleman was injured and had to take some time off. It was his back injury which caused him to only make 4th place during the 2007 Olympia. After taking time off, Ronnie Coleman has recently announced that he will participate in the 2010 Olympia, which will be held in late September.
