Kate Middleton Diet: The Weight Loss Plan Followed by the Duchess

Kate Middleton looked ravishing at the Royal Wedding last April. The blushing bride was slim and trim in her custom-made Alexander McQueen wedding gown of English and French Chantilly lace designed by Sarah Burton. Her slim figure was highlighted by a cinched waist and flowing ivory train. How did the Duchess look so good?

Yahoo! Shine reported on Feb. 17 that Kate Middleton and her mother were rumored to have followed the Dukan Diet.

The Dukan Diet has been dubbed “the French Atkins” and has reportedly attracted the likes of not only Kate Middleton, but also world acclaimed supermodel Gisele Bundchen and pop diva Jennifer Lopez.

On the Dukan Diet, reported the editors of EatingWell magazine via Shine, one goes through three phases–attack, cruise and consolidation.

During the attack phase, one can eat an unlimited amount of OK’d proteins and a small amount of oat bran every day along with six to eight glasses of water. During the cruise phase, one brings vegetables back into his or her diet and then alternates between days of pure protein and days of pure protein and vegetables. Starch-based vegetables like corn or potatoes are not allowed. During the consolidation phase, one is allowed to eat fruit, grains and dairy again. Finally, during the stabilization phase, one can eat whatever he or she likes provided three rules are followed. One of these rules is eating lean protein one day per week.

Incorporated into the Dukan Diet is 20 to 30 minutes of walking eat day. Dieters are also told to eat lean proteins to get the necessary nutrients.

However, Brierley Wright of EatingWell magazine claimed that Middleton’s diet is not “nutritionally sound.”

Wright said that some key nutrients are missing from this diet. Calcium and vitamin D from dairy, along with disease-fighting compounds from fruits and whole grains, are missing from this diet, said Wright. Wright also noted that there is no mention of portion size and portion-control is one of the main factors in weight gain. Wright said that ultimately, to lose weight, one needs to eat fewer calories than he or she is able to burn.

Kate Middleton and millions of others might disagree. The Dukan Diet, created by Dr. Pierre Dukan, is an extremely popular weight loss plan. “The Dukan Diet: 2 Steps to Lose the Weight, 2 Steps to Keep It Off Forever” book is a New York Times No. 1 best-seller.
