Postby runy_brm » Thu Apr 19, 2012 7:17 pm

Hi, my name is Runy. I am exercising 5 days a week doing cardio and strength training. How do you get that flat tummy?. Since I started exercising about a year ago I lost some bely fat, but it never completely flat. I wonder if its my diet aren't clean enough or its just stuck :| . Thank you in advance.

You need to eat on a caloric deficit. So if your body uses 1800 calories a day, start eating on 1500 calories a day. You dont even need to exercise if you are an a caloric deficit. There are calculators online that determine your daily caloric intake.

I don't know what you are eating or your exercise routine, but I can give you some general advice. Eat foods which are inefficient at being stored as fat, lean protein and vegetables. Restrict foods which are efficient at being stored as fat, carbs and starch especially.

I eat smaller portions throughout the day and it helps me stay trim. I have also had a c-section though and their is an area I can't tighten up so any advice helps me also.

Do not drop to 1500 calories a day! If you do that you'll end up starving yourself after you workout and burn even more calories.

I'd actually tell you to up the calories to a minimum of 2,000 calories and do more HIIT cardio. Your body is probably already in starvation mode and is clinging onto whatever it can.

Hard to say without seeing your routine but if you aren't restricting carbs and sugar then your problem may be there. Sugar and starches especially. Try not eating anything out of a box too for awhile. If you are doing strength training maybe drop a day (your body may have adjusted to it)and do 20 minutes of HIIT after your weights.

Just in case you need some examples of HIIT cardio: suicides, Tabata squats, hill sprints, sprints, ten minutes of jump roping. Things of that nature.

Hiit can be a simple as running fast for 1 minute then walking for the next minute and keep it going. You can do it with an exercise bilk or even jogging in place. The point is to alternate going all out (or as close to it) and then slowing it down for the next minute.

There is not rule as to time. Sometimes I will do 1 minute walk brisk/30 seconds all out on the treadmill.

A trick you can use for a flat stomach is to pull your belly button in. This will work your TVA (transversus abdominus)muscle. You need to work your transversus abdominus for a flat stomach and simply pulling in your belly button will activate the muscle.

I will try this. It allows me to vary the intensity. It also doesn't require me to buy alot of equipment.
