Do Injuries Really Destroy teams

Do Injuries Really Destroy teams

I know many teams in baseball rely heavily on one player. However, do these injuries when they happen really destroy the team to the point they cannot go to the playoffs? Also do you think the injuries are ones which can be prevented or even cared for and allow the player to return quickly?

Yeah a single injury could definitely hurt a team, even bring it out of playoff contention. Think about it, maybe your top pitcher breaks his arm and is out for the year, you're potentially losing 20+ wins and all the other frills that comes with having your top gun. You also have to remember that many teams don't make the playoffs by one, two, three games so those injuries do really hurt you.

Some injuries can be prevented but it's all a crapshoot really.

Going along with the post above injuries most definitely can hurt a team. If you were to lose your best hitter who has the highest chance of getting you an RBI, you would hurt your runs easily.

An example of this would be Rose from the bulls (I know its basketball but he is the one I can think of the quickest off the top of my head). When he does not play the bulls chance of winning drops by around 30% or so. When he does play they do have a rather significant chance to win compared to when he is out.

I don't think a single injury would really effect the team, depending on who the actual player is with the injury. I've noticed that if one person has an injury on the team, a few more will get injured as well. If that is the case, then yes the injuries would really effect the team and how they play/rank during the season.

Do you feel any of these injuries could have been prevented? I mean isn't an injury in most cases a muscle related issue? Could these have not been spotted or stopped from happening long before it became an issue for the team?

It depends on the injury, which are almost always muscle related. I don't think they can be pre known though.

Depends on the player who is injured. If it is the ace pitcher, then chances are good the team will have to struggle to make the difference. However, if the injured player is not the pitcher, then the team may have a good chance at a strong comeback.

They can.

If your star players gets hurt, you will see the team's morale drop like a rock. The Chicago Bulls in the NBA playoffs were a great example of this. Derrick Rose got hurt and was gone for the playoffs, immediately the Bulls collapsed like a sack of potatoes.

A team that was destined to contend in the finals was gone in the first round.

This is what injuries can do.

Injuries definitely destroy teams, most of the time more than a drop in overall team chemistry. The team I think of this year in the MLB are the Brewers. With Albert Pujols leaving and the Cardinals not expecting to repeat, the Brewers were the preseason favorites to contend for the NL Central. The improved at Shortstop, Third Base and found a nice replacement for Prince Fielder in Matt Gamel. Next thing you know, Gamel, Gonzalez and Chris Narveson are out for the year and their offense takes a huge toll. Now their having a sub-par year, sitting 5 games below 500.
