Tips for outdoor eating food safety
Often camping trips and holidays are seen as a lot of fun and a time to enjoy. Families take enormous amounts of food to provide themselves with proper quantities of food. However, taking enormous quantities of food should be taken care of properly. For the food to last longer enough care should be taken that the food has been stored in proper conditions so that there is no fear of contamination and resulting problems of food poisoning.
Take care that the food which requires remaining in cool conditions constantly for it to remain edible should be stored in insulated coolers.
It is better that the beverages are packed in different coolers and ice cases and perishable food should be stored separately. This will reduce chances of contamination because of melted ice considerably.
It is also required to control the number of times the insulated bag is being opened.
If opened constantly the temperature inside the cooler cannot be maintained and these will rise increasing the risk of contamination and bacteria growth.
Therefore storing beverages in a different cooler will reduce the number of times the perishable foods cooler is being opened. If you plan to take meat, poultry and dairy products with you, it is advisable that you pack these in frozen condition inside insulated cooler, this will keep these foods frozen for a long period of time.
All those foods that require marinating should be marinated and stored inside refrigerator instead of keeping them outside. Again marinate should not be used again to be included in the dish.
This will increase the chances of food becoming inedible. You should also take care that cooked food is packed inside vacuum containers if possible and then stored, this will again increase the chances of food remaining better for a longer period of time.
If you plan taking ready-to-eat food, ensure that all standards have been followed before these have been packed; most of the food labeled ‘ready-to-eat, washed or triple washed’ is good to eat.
Enough care has been taken at the time of storing food, has care been taken how you eat food?
Yes food contamination can occur even when you eat with dirty hands. A very simple gesture like washing hands with water and a soap strip will go a long way ensuring that the clean food you have stored is clean even at the time you eat it and not contaminated by your own hands.
