Cayenne benefits
It is commonly known that cayenne will add a fiery spice to any dish, but what is probably a secret are the amazing health benefits it can bring. Cayenne can increase the supply of blood, remove toxins, help in digestion, speed up your metabolism, and help relieve the common cold, work against shingles, arthritis, and even nerve pain.
Many of the benefits may result in a decrease chance of a heart attack, stroke, arthritis, or ulcers.
How does Cayenne Work
Cayenne contains a substance called capsaicin, which helps give it its heat and health benefits. The hotter the pepper the more capsaicin it contains. Capsaicin has been widely studied and known to help with arthritis, cardiovascular issues by lowering your cholesterol, and as an anti-inflammatory. It has also shown to help with headaches and its heat helps break up congestion in the common cold.
What is Cayenne
Cayenne is a tasty red hot chili pepper that is used to spice up dishes and for the medicinal purposes stated above. It is a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and manganese.
It is a vegetable that is a member of the capsicum family and these are commonly known as peppers. Their history traces back to Central and South America. Cayenne is generally has 30,000 – 50,000 Scoville Units (Scoville Units are a measurement for the spiciness of a pepper). The name “Cayenne” comes from the capital city of French Guiana, which is a city in Brazil, South America.
The powder you may commonly see is made from the dried and ground cayenne peppers. The medicinal qualities don’t change much when the pepper is in powder form.
