Faulty eating habits – do you have the guts to admit!

Several individuals today suffer from faulty eating habits and what begins occasionally sets into a daily routine which involves skipping breakfast, consuming an inordinately heavy and unhealthy lunch, binging on chips, soda, candy, coffee and donuts all day. The worst eating habit one could possibly have is to binge and this occurs when consuming food products that have a low fiber content, are either high in salt or sugar, and only partially hydrogenated trans fats.

This may cause the storage of more fat in the body as opposed to eating four or five small meals that are rich in fiber. The best diet in this case would include fresh fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts, pulses, legumes and whole grains which will allow the body to burn more fat and store less in the form of fat. Even before the binging begins, starvation does because once breakfast is skipped that essentially would mean that one has gone hungry for more than 15 hours.

The body then takes in more food than it can burn. People who eat out in restaurants most of the time have no idea about the amount of fiber or the bad fat that they are consuming and the excess calories are again stored as fat. It is common knowledge that excess consumption of sugar or glucose affects one’s blood sugar levels.

The body produces more insulin and this causes a variation in the metabolic rate of the body. Caffeine in the form of caffeinated drinks can also raise the insulin levels in the blood and slow down the fat burning process that began in the morning but slows down towards the end of the day.

On the contrary, eating high fiber late night snacks will help keep the blood sugar level steady and will promote sound sleep.
Exercise is also a necessary element to one’s daily routine as it will burn out the excess fat and it is also crucial to drink plenty of water. For the body to burn fat and especially the fat accumulated by faulty eating habits, at least 8-10 glasses of pure water have to be consumed. Water helps in digestion, keeps your body and skin hydrated, quenches thirst, reduces hunger and flushes out the toxins in the body.

However, drinking water is not a substitute for eating healthy food but must be a supplement to a healthy diet.

Faulty eating habits can cause a number of health problems beginning with obesity to the onset of diabetes and high blood pressure later on in life and it is hence essential to begin a healthy diet plan preferably in consultation with one’s health care provider.
