What are Sugar Detox Diets

What is a sugar detox diet? Does the sugar detox diet work? The purpose of the sugar detox diet is to provide you with a plan that helps you gradually reduce your sugar consumption. And yes, the sugar detox diet works very well, assuming you follow it diligently.

Is the sugar detox diet just another name for a typical low-carb diet? Yes and no. Most modern low-carb diets are designed to help you lose weight fast by reducing your consumption of simple carbohydrates, a.k.a. sugar. So in this sense, the sugar detox diet is very similar to a low-carb diet.

On the other hand, most sugar detox diets do not necessarily focus on weight loss, but simply focus on helping your body detox from too much sugar in your system. In short, a typical sugar detox diet focuses on the health benefits of abstaining from sugar, not on losing weight. However, while it is up for a debate if this detox can help you lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks, most people who follow this diet usually lose weight in the process, which is a nice side benefit.

How the sugar detox diet works First, lets deal with some misconceptions about this diet. This plan does not call for a complete elimination of carbohydrates from your diet. Its purpose is to clean up your eating habits by eliminating simple carbohydrates from your daily menu. The plan actually recommends consumption of complex carbohydrates, because they contain important nutrients that your body needs to be healthy.

What you cannot eat on the sugar detox diet Sugar (duh!) is obviously not allowed. I am talking about any form of simple sugar. Do not fall for the fallacy that not all sugar is created equal. Brown sugar, molasses, raw sugar, organic sugar, agave syrup, etc – is still sugar. You also cannot eat pasta (unless it is a low-carb pasta, of course), white bread, white rice, milk, starchy vegetables such as white potatoes and beets, starchy fruits such as bananas, high-sugar fruits such as watermelon and pineapple, pastries, ice cream, cookies, and fast food.

What you can and should eat on the sugar detox diet Fiber-rich vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and leafy greens, fiber-rich fruits such as berries, steel cut oatmeal, brown or wild rice, fiber-rich beans, any product that contains a sufficient amount of wholegrains, any kind of protein, seafood, healthy oils such as olive, macadamia, walnut or avocado, yogurt, and kefir are all allowed.
