The Twinkie Diet
The Twinkie diet – mavericky or fail? Can the Twinkie diet help you lose 20 pounds in 1 month? Can the Twinkie diet help you lose 50 pounds in a month? Does the Twinkie diet work at all? It pretty much goes without saying that the Twinkie diet sounds like a bunch of hooey, but while it is easy to dismiss the Twinkie diet as utterly inane and counterproductive, this diet actually works, big time.
How much weight can you lose on the Twinkie diet? Well, I wish none, frankly. Why? Because eating Twinkies should make you grossly overweight, it should not help you lose weight, and yet the guy who invented the Twinkie diet (nutrition professor Mark Haub) has lost 27 pounds in 8 weeks. Yes, he has lost 3.3 pounds a week by eating Twinkies and other junk food, which is not going to help you lose 25 pounds in 2 weeks, but that is not the purpose of the Twinkie diet anyway.
His goal was to prove the point that when it comes to weight loss, nothing matters more than portion control. It does not really matter what you eat. To lose weight, you just need to consume a certain number of calories, which is old news, of course, but it sends a wrong message. Besides, most people are unable to control their appetite on a diet high in artificial ingredients and sugar.
If you want sustainable weight-loss results, you have to learn how to eat healthy, and how to make smart food choices. This diet works short-term. The question is: What are you going to do long-term? Are you going to eat Twinkies and Doritos for the rest of your life? It just does not sound plausible.

Contest dieting
Along with that rather limited selection of foods, there are a host of ‘rules’ that go along with contest dieting, age old beliefs that should have been dismissed to the realm of lore and bullshit long ago. No sodium, no dairy, no red meat (sometimes but not always) and of course no fruit; there are [...]
Body composition and initial body fat changes
Introduction For many years (decades?) a common suggestion was that one should attempt to gain some muscle mass mass (through resistance training and possibly overeating) prior to beginning a diet. Well meaning individuals would suggest you spent 3-4 weeks or more training hard and eating well to gain muscle mass. The goal was to [...]
By Putting Building Bigger Biceps
I started hearing about a guy named Shawn Dorsey who grew up around us, and I was totally blown away by the size of his arm. Simply put, the dude had some huge-ass arms, so the wheels in my head immediately began to churn. His arms were undoubtedly bigger than anyone I knew, so I [...]
Supplementation Making Sense
Be careful where you stick your screwdriver! Thwack! “Use your head, John! You have more sense than that!” Boy, did I hear that line a lot while growing up! Throughout our childhood, my brother Steve and I were very interested in experimenting with things to figure out how they worked and why. As a result, [...]
