Background

Oxygen magazine columnist Tosca Reno wrote the Eat Clean Diet book to address bad eating habits, rather than as a weight-loss program. Reno herself lost over 200 pounds following this diet, so she uses herself often as an example in her book and fitness columns. In January 2010 Ms. Reno tweaked the diet in a new edition of her book called The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged.

What to eat

No pre-packaged foods, no foods high in sugar, nothing high in fat, especially saturated. No refined carbohydrates and no alcohol either. The plan urges you to eat at least six times a day, basically choosing natural, whole foods each time. There is no calorie counting, but instead a focus on eating small portions often to prevent hunger and cravings. Lots of water.

The Good

Acknowledges emotional eating and offer ideas on how to deal with it. Lots of healthy, wholesome foods. Meals are full of antioxidants and provide a wide variety of nutrients. The book is a fun, interesting read.

The Bad

The plan may not be realistic for those on the run. It can get expensive to buy organic, whole foods on the go six times a day. Lots of supplement recommendations, including some controversial ones, such as Creatine. Nothing original and no unique angle here
