The Diet Delusion Review:
Background
Ultimately, one of the problems with dieting is that nothing new has really been added to the field over the last hundred years or so. Dieters are told that in order to lose weight they must eat less, more intelligently, and they are morally bankrupt for not being able to lose weight. The Diet Delusion takes the concept of dieting to task for those failings, and seeks to point out that there needs to be a paradigm shift in the field or it will continue to be unsuccessful. When some of the base concepts have changed, it may be easier to lose weight.
What to Eat
This books questions the idea of dieting, and therefore doesn’t really add anything new to the field besides some interesting information to ruminate over. There are no specific diets recommended, although some are explored and discarded are bad, which can help dieters decide what not to do.
The Good
This should be a rallying point for those that see dieting as a problem, and especially for those dieters who have come under attack for moral weakness or lack of willpower. The book is an interesting read as well.
The Bad
This may be too much of an attack on dieting, and may be used to justify not dieting. It’s important to realize that this is ultimately a critique and needs to be taken in that regard. At the same time, there have been some changes in diets (such as community support and cuisine changes) that may make this book dated.
Costs
The book costs $24.
