The Brain Diet Review:

Background

Developed by Dr. Alan Logan, the Brain Diet is an eye-opener of a book that touches on the issues of nutritional neuroscience. The book focuses on the various links that are found from the way a person eats and the health of their brain. His theories arise from the facts that most Americans do not eat enough EPA/DHA, grains and supplements to keep the brain and body healthy. Also compared is the diets of the Japanese versus the diets of Americans, and how the Japanese are generally healthier because of the differences.

What to Eat

Blueberries, turmeric, ginger, green teas, fish, whole grains, seafood's and flax seeds. Vegetables should be consumed every day for their antioxidant value, kale and spinach topping the list. Purple produce is recommended, such as blueberries, eggplants, plums and grapes. Beef is good as long as it comes from animals that are grass fed. Foods should also be steamed as much as possible instead of being cooked in frying pans. A daily multivitamin should be taken. Teas and coffees can be drunk in moderation.

The Good

The book is clear and easy to read. There are many references in the book to verify the information given.

The Bad

Does not allow for sweets, sugars or alcohol. This is not so much of a diet, but a complete change in dietary and life-long habits, which can be difficult for some. Weight loss may be slow.

Exercise

No exercise plan listed.

Costs

$22.95 for the book. Supplements can be bought from any health food store, as well as daily vitamins.
