Background

Eat, Shrink and Be Merry: Great-Tasting Food That Won’t Go from Your Lips to Your Hips! is a cookbook that includes 150 recipes without fat. It claims to teach” how to EAT instead of how to diet.” Recipes include items like three cheese lasagna, juicy burgers, thai chicken pizza and double-chocolate cheesecake. The book also contains over 200 cartoons to keep it fun!

This cookbook is by JAnet and Greta Podleski. These sisters also wrote the cookbooks LooneySpoons and Crazy Plates. As the titles of these cookbooks suggest, the Podleski sisters love interjecting fun and humor into their recipes.

What to Eat

The recipes in this cookbook are all designed to be low-fat. However, vegetarians should note that many of the meals do contain meat.

The Good

According to various reviews of this diet, the recipes are quite tasty. Many of the recipes are also appropriate for dinner parties. The names of the recipes also have a lot of fun involved, for example, “The Roast of Christmas Past” and “Lanky Noodle Dandy.” Readers will get a lot of laughs from the titles of the recipes alone. Another positive point in favor of this book is that health tips are interwoven throughout the book.

While this book costs $25,there is currently a buy one get one free offer on the Eat Shrink and Be Merry website.

Janet and Greta are now offering precooked frozen meals in Ontario. Choices include Chicken with fire roasted vegetables and Southwestern chicken.

The Bad

Some of the more serious-minded readers may find that the cartoons and silly names in this book are juvenile. However, those readers looking for fun and amusement should embrace the jokes and illustrations in this cookbook with open arms.

Exercise

As this is a cookbook, exercise is not a factor. However, the writers do include tidbits of motivation for exercising.

Cost

This book costs $25.
