Dottis Weight Loss Zone
The Dotti’s Weight Loss Zone program is rated 4/5
Dotti’s Weight Loss Zone Review:
Background
The site is geared towards Weight Watcher members and does have some useful information that they can use. Dotti Koon is the creator of the Zone and materials and a Weight Watchers “Lifer” (someone who has lifetime membership by virtue of having obtained their weight loss goal).
The Zone offers recipes for free as well as a cookbook for sale. This is not necessarily a diet as it is a help resource for those members of Weight Watchers. Dotti does promote a hypnosis program with software known as Weight Commander. Dotti does not seem to have a weight loss program, but more of a support group for those that need help staying on a diet plan.
What to Eat
The Zone does not talk much about food except to tell you to use the recipes that are free and buy the cookbook. Many of the advertisements on the site are for sugar free foods.
The Good
Weight Watchers will find motivation and support. The Zone has practical information and there is a large community to talk with about experiences and get help if needed. There is a message board, chat room and help to find a weight loss buddy.
The Bad
This is not a diet plan. The Zone does not encourage exercise. Dotti has some valuable information, but is not an expert in the weight loss field. The Zone website is disorganized and distracting.
Exercise
There is no emphasis on exercise in any of the articles that are provided. It is more about receiving support for what you are doing.
Internet Criticism
On her diet blog diet book author and diet promoter Julia Havey has posed the question of whether Dotti is the new “Kimmer” (a reference to morbidly obese diet promoter Heidi Diaz, developer of the Kimkins Diet).
Ms. Havey posted a supposedly recent photo of an apparently overweight Dotti Koon, and said, “I could be wrong, but she looks heavier now than her ‘before’ picture. The reason that is troubling is that she has her ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures on the home page of her weight loss website – a for-profit website.”
Ms. Havey continues, “Ms. Coon has obvious product sponsorships on her site …. I imagine most of her income from the site comes from Google ads and selling her cookbook – and of course, the ‘help support Dot’ donation campaign. Help support Dot do what exactly? Encourage people to be as successful as her at the Weight Watchers? The concern that I have is that in her very folksy and warm, and very genuine concern for supporting others who battle weight, she does it from the posture of being a success story.”
A supporter of Dotti on the Low Carb Friends forum responded, “Dotti charges nothing for her site. She does solicit donations to keep it running, but no one has to pay a dime. Dotti did lose weight. Then she quit smoking, had a son in the service in harm’s way, had surgery, menopause hit. All of this was discussed on her site. She has never misrepresented herself in any way. She’s fighting the same battle we all are and does not claim to be an expert.”
