Background

Created by Daphne Oz the daughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz, the author of the bestseller YOU: On A Diet, this program focuses on helping young people avoid the Freshman-15. While the diet has a lot of common-sense advice regarding food choices, the fact that this is aimed to college students makes it easier for those on a budget, or eating out of a cafeteria, to make healthy choices.

What to eat

Three meals a day plus two snacks. Recommendations are based on typical cafeteria fare. Limit dessert and drinks with a high-calorie content and eats lots of veggies, especially when the “munchies” hit.

The Good

Eating often controls cravings and suppresses hunger. Makes use of food that is already around you, so you don't need to spend lots of money on elaborated or specific meals. No need to count calories or avoid specific food groups. Emphasizes the importance of breakfast.

The Bad

Foods recommended may not be available at your local cafeteria, and replacements are not always suggested.

Exercise

Encouraged using what's available in your own campus, such as gym facilities, pool or track. The Dorm Room Diet: The Workout is available as a download for your iPod.

Costs

$16.95 for the book and $12.95 for the planner. They're complimentary, so should be used together if possible.
