Background

Doctor's Orders 101 Medically-Proven Tips for Losing Weight is a very practical weight loss guide that will help dieters in their daily lives. It includes 101 various medically proven tips. The tips are broken into different categories including “setting goals” and “fueling and refueling.” This book offers a step-by-step guide to losing weight.

Dr. Kent Sasse writes about some of his experiences with medically-supervised weight loss. He often had to help patients lose weight before surgery.

What to Eat

There are recipes in the book for items including “cheddar, bacon and potato breakfast bake,” cheery cherry brunch pie, open face turkey avocado sandwich with grapes, Mexican chicken wraps, tex-mex turkey chili and halibut vegetable stir-fry. The food choices recommended by Dr. Sasse tend to be low carb, high protein options.

Protein bars, prepackaged meals and meal replacement shakes are recommended.

The Good

This is an easy to read and easy to follow plan for weight loss. The author seeks to teach readers to change their lifestyle on a long-term basis.

The Bad

The recipes do not place any emphasis on using organic or natural food. Due to the fact that a lot of chicken, beef and cheese is included, this type of recommendation would be helpful. Some of the protein bars, prepackaged meals and meal replacement shakes may have chemicals and artificial ingredients. Also the recipes in Dr. Sasse’s book do not include a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Exercise

Doctor's Order does include a lot of information about exercise. For example, it details different cardiovascular exercises and stretches. During the diet, Dr. Sasse advocates exercising 5 times per week.
