Background

The title of this book tells the whole story. Dieting Makes You Fat is the story of why the dieting industry does not work and how the industry is actually a part of the problem and not the answer to the problem. Author Geoffrey Cannon also explores why the current state of global politics are turning much of the population towards a deadly gauntlet of diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

What to Eat

Though not really a diet book per se, Dieting Makes You Fat does make some suggestions for healthy weight loss, including rules we are already aware of: drink two liters of water a day, consume vegetables and fruits mainly, and eat only whole carbs. Also, Cannon suggests eating slowly, not motoring your way through your meals, and fasting occasionally to clean your body and break out of plateaus.

The Good

Great advice on a subject that is not given enough scrutiny. Where it seems many dieters are only looking for the answer, not how to arrive at this destination, Cannon encourages readers to look deeper.

The Bad

Some readers may be turned off by the “golden rules” the author lists and the fat that the rules are not the winning ticket to becoming slim but rather tried and true methods of dedication that with patience will lead to a change in lifestyle.

Exercise

Exercise is key to this program and much time and attention is given to discussing it.

Costs

The book can be found online for under $5.
