Daniel Diet for Fasting Review:
Background
In the Bible, Daniel and some others were put into training for leadership. However, certain foods did not square with Mosaic Law (the law regulating Jewish behavior), and so Daniel asked to be allowed to not eat certain foods. A “Daniel Diet” is therefore a diet based on limiting certain foods.
How It Works
There are seven steps, that when followed, allow the body to heal itself. The first is to be specific on which foods you are denying your body. Second, the dieter needs to make a spiritual commitment to God. Then, the dieter needs to follow through, pray for success, and make this a statement of faith. He also needs to learn the effects of foods on his body, and then to give it up to God. By doing this, the dieter hopes to lose weight and gain some measure of spiritual enlightenment. During the first period of the diet, a strict fast is in effect, meant to help the dieter get in touch with his own feelings without being interrupted by mundane things like food.
The Good
Although it would seem that the dieter is leaving it solely to a higher being and hoping for a particular result, limiting foods and learning which foods are healthy are part of any good diet. By seeking that higher power, the dieter is affirming the desired result, which is also part of a good diet. Through in some exercise, and this diet may actually allow you to maintain the weight loss after the diet itself is over.
The Bad
Fasting should always be done under the care of a physician. Also, there are certain people (such as pregnant women) who should not attempt a fast because of the serious health risks involved.
Exercise
Exercise is not a part of this diet. In fact, exercise may be dangerous due to the very-low calorie content of the program itself.
Costs
There are no extra costs with this diet.
