Caveman Diet

Caveman Diet Review:

Background

The Caveman Diet (essentially the same thing as the Paleolithic Diet and the Hunter-Gatherer Diet) is a basic, simple approach that states that the best foods to lose weight and keep it off are those that can be eaten raw or barely cooked, such as the ones once eaten by our ancestors: meat, fish, roots, certain vegetables and fruits.

What to eat

Basically anything that doesn't need to be cooked is fair game. As a result, most carbohydrates and all processed foods are out. Root vegetables are the best, but others are ok as long as they don't need to be cooked (so potatoes are out, for example). Nuts, berries and eggs can be eaten, as well as all kinds of meat, even though they need to be cooked to be safe. No dairy products and no beans or sugars.

The Good

Since you're eliminating processed foods, you're less likely to get too much sodium or chemicals in your diet, most of which come from pre-packaged, convenience foods.

The Bad

Not for vegetarians, as beans, tofu and other sources of vegetable protein are out. Eating lots of meat can be bad for your heart, especially if you concentrate on red meats.

Exercise

Exercise is essential, as experts believe that caveman were very active (a necessity in their quest for food). There are no specific workout programs mentioned, but exercise in general is encouraged.

Costs

Eating lots of meat can get expensive. Other than that, there are no products or supplements to buy (although books are available to help you understand the diet better).
