Background

Fitness trainer and superstar Regina Joseph created this program as an answer to clients who needed to get in top shape in 30 days or less. The plan addresses not only physical issues but also nutritional changes and stress, which she believes can lead to weight gain in the long run.

What to Eat

Breakfast is always a smoothie prepared using the Acai berry, a powerful natural antioxidant. No sugary foods and no processed foods, but most other things are allowed in moderation. Foods high in healthy, unsaturated fats are important, and fiber is also essential to the diet. Joseph does recommend lots of native Brazilian foods to obtain these nutrients, but most can be easily substituted for local options to lower prizes and fight boredom.

The Good

The emphasis is on loving your body, even while you’re working to change it. Lots of fruits and vegetables, paired with good tasting recipes that don’t make you feel deprived. Both the website and the book offers numerous meal plan options and lots of ideas to replace foods you don’t particularly enjoy. There is also a maintenance plan.

The Bad

The plan caters exclusively to women. The frequent references to Brazilian culture and lifestyle may get to be too much for some people. Some of the recommended food items and supplements may be difficult to find.

Exercise

Joseph goes to great lengths to make this feel like a true Brazilian program, including numerous exercises from Capoeira, to the mix. Pilates is also a big part of the system. The exercise program provided in the book is very specific, while the website offers customization options and lots of toning and flexibility exercises.

$15 or less for the book or $25 for 3-month access to the website.
