Background

Baby Love: Healthy, Easy, Delicious Meals for Your Baby and Toddler is a book of recipes for babies and toddlers. The book was written by MSNBC correspondent Norah O'Donnell. While you might expect O'Donnell to be writing about politics or sociology, surprisingly she is writing about baby food! She has 3 babies, so I guess she knows! The book was also co-written by O’Donnell’s husband Geoff Tracy, who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. He owns 5 restaurants in Washington DC.

What to Eat

This book is primarily geared towards parents who are looking to feed their babies un-processed and organic foods, and it includes more than 60 recipes. Baby Love enables parents to make their own food for their babies, rather than relying on jarred baby food.

The Good

This book teaches parents to make 2 weeks of meals in less than one hour. Obviously this could be quite the financial savings over buying jarred food! It is also definitely a benefit that parents can make these meals so quickly. The book has a lot of nutritional information in it as well as developmental information about babies. Also it is interesting to note that spices are included in many of the recipes. Options include items like Peach and Apricot Oatmeal, Roasted Red Pepper and Pomegranate Hummus and Creamy Butternut with Nutmeg. Many of these spices have antioxidants that can only benefit the health of a baby.

The Bad

Some parents who have read the book feel that some of the recipes are too basic, as parents could figure out how to steam and puree fruits and vegetables on their own. The second half of the book has recipes that adults might want to eat. However, these recipes aren’t necessarily appropriate for babies and toddlers.

Exercise

Exercise is not relevant on this diet.

Cost

Baby Love costs about $13.59.
