Lose weight fast with hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is one of the most common disorders of the thyroid gland. It is the condition when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid glands and causes our body to suffer in many ways. This condition can cause health problems, such as weight gain, dry skin, besides fatigue and in some cases, intolerance to cold weather.
Due to the problem of the weight gain, many people find it uncomfortable and irritating. There are however a few proven scientific ways to deal with the problem of weight gain due to hypothyroidism. The reason why people get frustrated with the weight gain associated with this condition is commonly due to the fact that even though they can continue with all their regular daily activities in a normal manner, they still gain weight! Even if they maintain their daily schedule as in the days prior to being diagnosed, they are still likely to gain weight.
Therefore, overweight patients diagnosed with this condition need to first consult a doctor for ways that are medically safe for losing weight as being a patient of hypothyroidism will require strict counting of calories, besides other lifestyle changes and possible medication to control the weight gain. So, visit your doctor to get advice on how many calories you should ideally consume every day. This is because the numbers differ depending on the person and his or her condition. There are a lot of ways to do this, such as keeping a food journal where you note down all the food items you consume at every meal and add up the calories. Since you will be fatigued, and suffer low energy levels due to low calories, you need to ensure you consume good calories to keep your body nourished. Your diet should therefore consist of a balanced intake of protein, low fat dairy and whole grain carbohydrates.
You can take up exercising but be very gentle and easy with your body in the initial weeks. It is already experiencing a lot of stress and reduced energy levels so you do not want to make it worse under any circumstances. The best advised exercise is walking. This is because you can set your pace and your comfort level; if you feel drained of energy you can stop and rest anytime. Furthermore, unlike rigorous exercises, walking does not require warming up and cooling down.
Rest your body at regular intervals because it is vital for you to provide your body with enough sleep. People suffering from this unfortunate condition require up to 16 hours of sleep every night. This is because their body is so tired that it needs a lot of rest to try and recover the same level prior to hypothyroidism setting in.
Unfortunately, lifestyle changes aren’t the most effective for treating hypothyroidism, so your doctor most probably will put you on synthetic thyroid medication for life. It has been reported that a lot of people find the medication quite irritating at first; however, once the body adjusts to it, it is the greatest aid you will get for losing weight.
In addition to all the tips mentioned above, you must visit your doctor on a regular basis to get you thyroid levels checked. This becomes more important once you start taking the synthetic thyroid medication. With proper care, support and willingness, despite your hypothyroidism, you will lose weight with the right motivation, self-determination and of course, a balanced approach to shedding those extra pounds.
