Treatment of high triglycerides

Triglycerides in the body are not a bad thing unless their levels are high. Triglycerides are the body’s way of converting food into energy and saving it up for later use. Most people know that they get a triglyceride reading along with their cholesterol readings.
Although triglycerides are stored in fats, they can be seen as stored energy sources. When diets are too high on fats, the triglyceride levels become too high. The ideal level of triglycerides is 150 and below.

Anything above 150 can be borderline dangerous and most dangerous if nearing 500. There are several factors which can cause high levels of triglycerides in the body. A diet high in fats and sugar, alcohol abuse, less physical activity and low exercising are some of the things which could lead to such a condition. Diabetes and hyperthyroidism are also some of the factors which could affect the levels of triglycerides in the body.

The first and thing one can possibly do is try and prevent this condition. For that, it is necessary that one must make a few changes in the lifestyle as well as in the diet. Try to avoid too much of fatty food stuff as well as food which contains a lot of sugar. An average fat and sugar in the food is ideal. One needs plenty of exercising and must control the consumption of alcohol. One must not have more than one drink per day. If possible one must try and avoid drinking altogether. A few additions in the diet are known to help treating such a condition. Increase the intake of foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids in the diet. Foods such as flax seeds, olive oil and some fishes are rich sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. Fishes such as salmon, tuna and mackerel contain the highest amount of Omega-3 fatty acids.

If the triglyceride levels are too high, it is best to consult your doctor or health lower high triglycerides, high triglyceride treatment, high triglycerides symptoms, foods high triglycerides, care provider. This is advised because very high levels of triglycerides can cause serious health complications such as a heart disease. The doctor will provide with the accurate diagnosis and also find the right medication suitable for the condition. It is also advised that one should not self administer any kind of medication as it can prove dangerous. Even when the triglyceride levels are under control, it is best advised to follow a balanced diet, daily exercise, control over alcohol consumption as well as control over one’s smoking habits.
