Treatment of dry cough




Coughing occurs when irritants enter the respiratory system. It is a reflex action of the body wherein an attempt is made to expel the irritant from the body. A cough can be either wet or dry.

It is dry cough that causes irritation and discomfort. It can also worsen during the night. Dry cough occurs commonly in children, but can occur in adults as well.

 

Dry cough treatment is essential to prevent the condition from becoming chronic. Once this condition becomes persistent it can be difficult to get rid of dry cough.

 

Dry coughing could occur due to various causes. Exposure to dust and pollutants are some of the most common triggers of a dry cough. Smoking, climate changes, inhalation of chemical fumes and viral infections can also result in a dry cough. There are also some infections of the respiratory tract that are known to cause dry cough. These include asthma, bronchitis, flu, whooping cough, pneumonia, laryngitis and sinusitis. If a dry cough treatment does not begin in its early stages, it could turn into a respiratory disorder. Dry cough symptoms include irritation in the throat, absence of phlegm and breathing difficulties. The individual may also experience fatigue, sweating, heartburn and fever.

 

One can obtain dry cough relief by taking over the counter medications. There are many medicines that help in dry cough treatment and alleviate symptoms. These are helpful in easing dry coughing during the night. There are also many natural dry cough remedies. These can be used to reduce dry cough symptoms and also prevent further attacks. Ginger is known to be very effective in relieving a cough. You can prepare a mixture of a few drops of ginger juice and honey and consume thrice daily. This is also beneficial when consumed just before going to bed. To soothe the airways you can also consume a mixture of one teaspoon of carom seeds, one teaspoon of turmeric powder and one glass of water. Dry cough treatment would also include sipping on warm water throughout the day. Another popular dry cough treatment is steam inhalation. This helps to hydrate the respiratory passage and reduce irritation. Herbal teas are also an excellent way to treat a dry cough. Sip slowly on teas such as ginger, chamomile, peppermint and jasmine tea. A very popular home remedy for a cough is a glass of warm milk to which a pinch of turmeric has been added. This may be consumed before going to sleep at night.
