Treatment of cervical infection
A cervical infection could be caused by the presence of bacteria or a virus in the cervix, which usually leads to an inflammation. This affliction is usually the result of a sexually transmitted disease (STD). However, there could be other causes for this infection, such as an overgrowth of bacteria or allergic reactions to certain contraceptive measures.
Cervical infections are usually diagnosed by a doctor, after conducting a Pap smear test or by analyzing symptoms that have been experienced.
Cervical Infection Symptoms
Several women do not face any symptoms of a cervical infection and only realize that they are suffering this problem, when they undergo a Pap screening test for another condition. However, some of the most common symptoms of cervical infections include:
Frequent urination accompanied by pain or a burning sensation
Pus-like vaginal discharge, which is yellow or gray in color
Experiencing pain during sexual intercourse
Noticing vaginal bleeding after menopause, between menstrual periods and after sexual intercourse.
There may be a few serious symptoms too that are associated with cervical infections in women. These symptoms require immediate medical attention, without any delay. As soon as the following symptoms are observed, a doctor needs to be consulted for cervical infection treatment options.
Vaginal discharge, which looks unusual and is persistent
Severe pain during intercourse
Continuous vaginal bleeding, which is not related to the menstrual period
Cervical Infection Treatment
Cervical infection treatment is usually only applicable, if the cause is an STD. In fact, in such instances it is generally recommended that both the partners under go treatment for infections. In order to clear up the inflammation of the cervix, doctors may prescribe certain medication. If the infection is a bacterial one, then antibiotics will need to be prescribed.
However, antibiotics or other antiviral medications are not prescribed for viral infections. Many people use home remedies to reduce the symptoms of cervical infections in such cases. Doctors also usually advise people to abstain from sex for a while, in order to prevent this infection from spreading or getting worse.
Preventing cervical infections is a lot better than going through cervical infection treatment options. The risks of developing this inflammation can be reduced to a great extent, by practicing safe sex and following the Pap screening schedule that has been recommended by the doctor. All instances of cervical infection should be closely monitored by a doctor, till the problem is cured completely.
