Physical fitness definition
The definition of physical fitness has become a bit muddled or confusing. Some people think to be physically fit they must be able to run long distances, lift heavy weights, or train multiple hours in a day. Others consider it being free from disease, not being overweight, or performing a sport or activity at a high level. This is far from true.
People will define physical fitness in different ways and that’s okay. This is because people have different body types, different fitness goals, different health goals, and have different daily demands on their body.
A physical fitness is your body’s strength, endurance, and flexibility to perform daily tasks, unexpected tasks, and leisurely activities. It’s also about having the proper nutrition, the proper state of mind, and the ability to fight illness with little or no fatigue.
There are two concepts of physical fitness:
General fitness – This concept of physical fitness encompasses just about every person. It defines your overall health, well-being, and state of mind.
Specific Fitness – This is a more defined concept of physical fitness and it relates to a person’s ability to train their body to perform specific tasks, such as a sport or military duty at an above average level.
If your body is unable to meet the daily wear and tear, you become more susceptible to injuries and illnesses. It’s important to make sure your body is equipped to handle the daily activities you perform. The 5 components of physical fitness section will show you the different gears your body should develop to be physically fit.
However you decide to look at physical fitness it’s important to recognize your body’s limits and develop a fitness plan so you are equipped to meet daily demands.
