In winter skin care- cost-effective

Winter chill and winds can be very harsh on the skin. The cold dry air causes the skin to dry up and flake. Dry skin is generally accompanied by intense itchiness as well as cracked, wrinkled, and ashen or whitish skin that is quite unsightly.

You may also suffer from other skin problems like winter acne that may leave your skin uneven and scarred. There are now many cosmetic creams and lotions that use natural ingredients to cleanse and moisturize your skin. Instead of using these creams, you can go directly to the source and use several simple natural winter skincare remedies.

The texture of winter dry skin can be improved by the intake of vitamins A, D and E. These are available as capsules. Instead of these supplements you could eat food that is rich in these vitamins, such as carrots, fish, and cod liver oil.

Drink plenty of water. Due to the cold, a person may not feel very thirsty in winter, but it is essential not to neglect the body’s need for 8-10 glasses of water per day.

Aloe Vera juice is good for the skin. Drink 1-2 glasses of this juice in a day. Aloe Vera gel can be applied on the face as a good moisturizer too.

Before moisturizing, it is essential to exfoliate all the dead skin. Make a scrub of olive oil, any other oil of your choice, sea salt, and oats. Apply this on your skin, and massage it gently so that you slowly slough off all the dead skin. Soak in a warm bath or rinse yourself after a few minutes.

It is important to remember that very hot water dries the skin. So, as tempting it is to get into a steaming bath this winter, use lukewarm water instead, for the sake of your skin.

After a wash or bath, make sure that you apply a good moisturizer. You can make your own moisturizer out of olive oil and coconut water. Mix these two ingredients thoroughly and then apply it to your skin after your shower. This is a very effective winter skin treatment that will help to moisturize your skin and prevent flaking.

Usually, we tend to forget the harmful effects of the sun in winter. Keep in mind that the rays of the sun are just as harmful in winter as they are in summer. Make sure you use a good, moisturizing sun screen before getting out of the house.

Cover your skin as much as possible when facing extreme cold and harsh winds. Use gloves, mufflers, scarves, and jackets.
Exfoliate the dead skin on your lips. You can mix a little gram flour, honey and sugar together until the sugar crystals have dissolved slightly. You can then gently scrub your lips with this paste in order to get rid of any dead skin. Make sure that you apply a little petroleum jelly to your lips once you have rinsed your lips as this will work as an effective winter moisturizer that will prevent your lips from drying.

Use moisturizers that are rich in oil or cream rather than water. These help retain the moisture in the skin much longer than water based ones.
