Home remedies gallstones
Gallbladder is a small sac that is located in the right upper abdomen above the liver. Its main function is to store bile that is produced by the liver. Bile is mainly made up of cholesterol, water, fats and bile pigments; it is needed by the body to digest fat.
When you eat a fatty meal, signals are sent from the small intestine to the brain to secrete bile from the gall bladder which then helps in breakdown of fats into digestible bits. Gallstones are formed in the gall bladder when there is excess cholesterol or pigment in the bile which hardens and forms stone like material. These tiny stones can enlarge over a period of time without exhibiting any symptoms.
In fact many people don’t realize that they have any gallstones unless they are seen in some x-ray or an ultrasound. However these stones can cause pain if they get stuck in the bile duct blocking the way of the bile. Indigestion, flatulence, nausea and vomiting can also occur. The best gallstone treatment is switching to low fat diet till the symptoms subside or gallstones are removed and losing excess weight gradually. The following gallstone home remedy will help you to dissolve your gall stones naturally.
Lose weight but gradually – Being even slightly overweight increases your risk for getting gallstones up to six folds. Even a few pound losses can ease your condition; however keep in mind not to lose weight too fast as this will actually increase your risk for developing gall stones.
Have a Low-fat diet and not No-fat diet – It is important to minimize the amount of fat from your diet, but complete elimination of fat is not required. Many researchers believe that when fat is cut down completely increases the risk for gall stones formation. So eat wisely, stay away form saturated and trans fats which includes butter, marbled meats, highly processed foods, products containing palm oil and coconut oil and bakery products.
Go veggies – Have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating citrus foods and apples is considered a good gallbladder home remedy as it is believed that the pectin from these fruits help to fight the problem.
Be Active – Sedentary lifestyle can be a probable cause for developing gallstones. Exercise will not only help to decrease this possibility but also help to reduce your weight. Drink lots of water – at least 8 to 10 glasses of water per day.
Herbs – Some herbs like milk thistle, rosemary and dandelion help to stimulate the bile production and thus decrease its concentration in the gallbladder. But before starting any herbal supplement consult a health care professional for correct guidance and recommendation.
