The skin is the largest organ of the human body. The skin is composed of three layers known as the epidermis, middle dermis and hypodermis. It protects the internal structures of the body from pathogens in the environment.

It also regulates the temperature of the body. The skin also enables the elimination of excess water and toxins from the body. There are nerve endings present beneath the skin and these allow us to experience sensations of heat, cold, pain and pleasure.

Due to various factors the skin may suffer from ill health. Acne, blackheads, dryness, spots and skin infections are some of the problems that affect the skin. These many be caused by excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, dust, harsh weather, intake of certain medications, stress and chemicals. The diet also affects the state of the skin. Therefore to maintain good health of the skin it is important to incorporate vitamins for healthy skin into the daily diet.

 

Some of the best vitamins for skin include vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C and vitamin E. these vitamins for healthy skin should be part of your daily diet. One should also pay careful attention to consume all these vitamins for healthy skin in some form or the other. Vitamin A is contained in foods such as spinach, carrots, sweet potatoes and mangoes. Deficiencies of vitamin A lead to dry and dull skin. Vitamin B is present in oats, tuna, banana and lentils. It helps to maintain elasticity of the skin and also enables the skin to retain moisture. Vitamin C can be obtained from foods such as citrus fruits, broccoli, turnips and red peppers. It helps to prevent wrinkles and skin discoloration. It also helps in retaining elasticity as natural ageing occurs. One can obtain vitamin E from foods such as olive oil, tomatoes, nuts, avocados and cabbage. Vitamin D is also one of the vitamins for good skin. It aids in the metabolism and growth of skin cells. This vitamin helps to keep the skin hydrated and also protects the skin from sun exposure and pollution. These healthy skin vitamins help to keep the skin functioning properly and also prevent skin blemishes.

 

Foods for healthy skin include those that also contain antioxidants. These help to protect the skin from the damaging effects of free radicals. Foods that are rich in antioxidants include fruits such as grapes, oranges and kiwi, vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, ginger and parsley, legumes, nuts and dried fruits. Cereals such oat and corn and spices such as oregano and cinnamon also constitute healthy foods for the skin.
