For headaches caffeine is important

Caffeine is believed to be one of the most widely consumed substances across the world, often unwittingly because it happens to be an ingredient in many popular drinks and medications. Caffeine is not just present in coffee and tea but also is present in small amounts in many other aerated drinks. It is believed that 90% of the world consumes caffeine on a daily basis and it has been recognized as a “safe food substance”.

Caffeine is the compound C8H10N4O2 and is said to have a chemical in it which causes an invigorating effect on both physical and mental energy and stamina. Caffeine is relatively safe if and when it is consumed in moderation. In some cases its effects of increased alertness and wakefulness make it popular among those who work long hours or at monotonous or routine jobs where boredom could set in, but alertness is essential.

This seemingly harmless substance can however be abused if it becomes an addiction or if consumed in large quantities, which is why some experts believe that it should be classified as a drug. The reasoning behind this is that it can be even more addictive than some other substances listed as drugs. Most of the usual headache medications contain some amount of caffeine as it is believed to speed relieve pain. Though it may help to reduce headaches, consuming caffeine if you suffer from hypertension can be dangerous as it could cause fluctuations in blood pressure. Pregnant women in particular are advised against the consumption of any caffeinated drinks or medications containing the ingredient. This is because of fears that caffeine ingested would eventually reach the foetus as well, causing harm to your unborn baby. Experts say that the side effects of caffeine differ from person to person and may cause irritability, nausea, an increase in your heart rate and it could also increase your cholesterol count along with having a strong impact on bone density as it is said to prevent calcium from being absorbed into the bones.

Like many other substances that may be useful to us when consumed in moderation, caffeine can be used to great effect in treating headaches. Complete avoidance and elimination of coffee and all other caffeinated drinks or medications would therefore be a bit extreme and unnecessary. The important point here would be to simply exercise some amount of caution and moderation when it comes to the consumption of caffeinated products. Avoid relying on caffeine and medications with caffeine for every headache you experience and instead try out some natural methods of coping with headaches.
