For fitness- warm up and shed those holiday blues
Most people think of the holidays as one of the best times of the year. This is because the holiday season is usually filled with festivities, family time and hope for the future. For children, teenagers and some adults too, Christmas is all about parties, presents, food and fun.
People listen to Christmas carols everywhere they go, watch movies based on the holiday theme, put up their Christmas trees and lights, decorate their surroundings, plan family trips, take advantage of the Christmas sales and offers by buying gifts for their family and friends, put their diets on hold and enjoy the Christmas goodies to their hearts content. In simple words, most people indulge themselves to some extent during this season.
However, the holidays are not necessarily a cheerful time for everybody.
In fact, there are some people who feel downright depressed, as soon as the holiday season comes about. Research shows that people who are single and lonely, or without their families, going through financial difficulties, or have been through major trauma around the holidays are filled with a certain kind of despair, during the holiday season. This feeling is known as Holiday Depression or more commonly, The Holiday Blues and it is more common than a lot of people imagine. The symptoms of this phenomenon are many and may vary from one person to the other. For many people, the depression can be triggered off by stress or fatigue that almost everyone goes through during the holidays.
Fortunately, there are certain ways to beat or lose the holiday blues that can reduce the feelings of despair and depression in most people. Given below are some of the steps that can help you Warm Up for Losing the Holiday Blues:
Understand and accept that you are not the only one who feels this way; there are thousands or maybe even millions of people who go through the same symptoms and feelings that you experience this time of the year.
Make sure that you eat foods that are healthy and rich in vitamins, minerals & other nutrients. Not only will eating healthy reduce those feelings of despair, but it will also relieve stress and calm your senses, probably invigorating you instead.
There are some people who think back to the holidays in the past that were much better than the ones that they are going through right now. Thinking about the happier times may be good once in a while, but constantly dwelling on the past can make you feel more depressed. It is best to keep yourself busy and get involved in activities that you may find fulfilling or by strengthening your relationships.
Find one positive thing to focus on, for every day of the holidays. Make a written list of all the positive things you can find and put it up in a place where you can easily see it a couple of times a day. Read the list aloud every chance you get. This will help take your mind off the negative aspects of the holidays.
Exercise releases endorphins into the body, which have the ability to make people happy. It may be best to join a gym or an exercise class during this time of the year.
