For alcohol withdrawal remedies in home

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome is a collection of symptoms that a person experiences after long periods of excessive alcohol intake when he or she stops or reduces the consumption of alcohol. This happens mainly because the central nervous system gets hyper-excited. Alcohol withdrawal is very serious, and depending on how addicted a person was to alcohol, its symptoms range from mild ones like weakening and sweating to fatal ones such as seizures and delirium.

The severity of the symptoms depends on the degree and duration of alcohol intake, the number of previous detoxifications and other factors such as age and genetics. While undergoing detoxification, it is most important to strengthen the body with nutrients and stabilize blood sugar levels. One must reduce the consumption of simple sugars, low fiber or dried fruits, white flour and instant potatoes, while boosting consumption of complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, beans and vegetables.

Avoid caffeine as much as possible, if you are used to a daily cup of coffee or tea then opt for a decaffeinated substitute. For some people alcohol withdrawal becomes much easier after cutting out milk and dairy products from their diet completely.

Consumption of fruits such as grapes and apples has been seen to provide relief. Dates are extremely beneficial in providing nutrition, Rub 4-5 dates in half a glass of water and drink that water twice a day. Bitter gourd leaves are a popular source for home remedies for alcohol withdrawal, 3tsps of the juice of its leaves in a glass of buttermilk taken on an empty stomach in the mornings helps to reduce the craving. Consumption of half a glass of raw celery juice mixed with half a glass of water could be taken daily to see beneficial results. Vitamins could also be taken to help the body regain its strength. Vitamin C helps in reducing anxiety and depression. A B-Complex vitamin and Vitamin D must also be taken daily in supplement form as they are the most common deficiencies in alcoholics.

Herbs are also an effective form of home remedies for alcohol withdrawal. Herbs such as Kudzu, Milk Thistle and Dandelion help with the symptoms of withdrawal. Take 3-5 grams of Kudzu in supplement form three times a day for reduction in the interest in alcohol. As for Milk Thistle which counteracts the harmful effects on the liver due to excessive alcohol consumption one must follow the instructions on the bottle for the appropriate dosage.
