Ulcerative colitis can happen at any age and tends to run in families.
The most common symptoms include pain in the abdomen and diarrhea accompanied with blood. You need to keep a check on what you eat as you can find lot of relief by altering your diet.
Drinking a lot of water does help you to stay hydrated and avoid constipation. So make sure you drink at least eight to ten glasses of water a day.
Taking in fluids in the form of soups and juices also help you to stay well-hydrated.
If you are suffering from ulcerative colitis, make sure that you include a lot of fiber in your diet. Bran, whole wheat bread, carrots, celery, brown rice, legumes, green beans, green leafy vegetables, nuts, and oatmeal are fiber-rich food. So make sure that you include at least a portion of each in your daily diet.
However, if you feel that you are having fast bowel movements, bring down the intake of fiber a little to find some relief.
Your doctor may prescribe multi-vitamin supplements for speedy recovery. So make sure that you take them regularly.
Reducing your fat intake is a good idea as high fat food cause diarrhea and gas formation.
Limit the intake of gas-producing food like carbonated drinks, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and so on in order to help easy bowel movements.
Following a high-protein diet helps you tackle the problem of ulcerative colitis in a better way.
So include lots of soy, eggs, and sprouts in your diet. Following a healthy, well-balanced and nutritious diet is the key to solve this health malady.
Consuming a small amount of food at regular intervals is a better idea than gulping a whole lot at once. Avoid spicy food as they tend to irritate your intestines and your abdomen. Try to avoid or at least limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol.
If you are lactose intolerant, it is better to stay away from milk and milk products. You can instead opt for lactose supplement to deal with the intolerance.
Stay away from hard food. Choose soft and bland food as they are easy to digest and are soft on your intestines too.
By eating wise and smart, you can avoid a lot of problems associated with ulcerative colitis.
