Causes of spring ailments

Spring allergy season refers to the allergies one gets during the spring season. There are many causes of spring ailments such as certain substances that are present in the air or are abundant in the spring time only.

Allergies in the spring time are brought about due to the weather changes.

The weather changes from cold to warm, the cool wind that blows is due to the ice thawing after a long winter. This same cool wind carries with it the pollen from the flowers that bloom in the spring season. The most common allergens for causing spring allergies are pollen and grass.

When spring begins, the flowers start to bloom and insects or the wind carry pollen from the flowering plants.

Another reason for allergies in the spring is due to the lowered immunity that certain people have at this time. This lowered immunity is once again based on various factors such as partying during the holiday season (before spring), overeating, staying up late, drinking and so on. All this leads to a lowered immunity and is responsible for people suffering from spring ailments.

However, why exactly does one suffer from spring allergies? As mentioned earlier, this is linked with the body’s immune system.

Allergic reactions are an immune response. Whenever the immune system considers a substance to be harmful then it reacts by releasing antibodies. This results in antihistamines being released into the blood stream. These antihistamines are responsible for the symptoms of spring allergies. The most common symptom of a spring allergy is a sore or itchy throat. Other signs and symptoms of spring allergies include a runny nose, itchy, red or watery eyes, headaches and even a loss of taste or smell. Wheezing, coughing and sneezing are also common signs of a spring allergy. Spring allergies which are due to dust, pollen or poison ivy could lead to rashes.
