Body cardiovascular endurance
What is Cardiovascular Endurance?
This is the body’s ability to supply oxygen and blood to the muscles for long periods of time during physical activity.
Why it’s Important?
It strengthens your lungs and heart.
The purpose of the lungs is to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. The oxygen that the lungs inhale is then transferred to the blood stream, which is distributed by the heart.
Your heart pumps blood throughout the body. Blood is needed because it delivers the oxygen, vitamins, and nutrients that your cells need for energy. Oxygen is one of the energy sources used by our bodies (along with food and water). This is needed for basic survival.
Having sufficient cardiovascular exercise can:
Reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease
Lower your blood pressure
Increase HDL (good) cholesterol
Lower your overall cholesterol
Increase your performance and range of activities
Increasing your Cardio
This really means building your heart and lung strength. You want to be able to perform physical activities without major fatigue. Most aerobic activities are best to increase your cardiovascular capabilities. These include running, aerobics classes, biking, walking, boxing, and many others. It’s important to talk with your healthcare professional if you are going to begin a cardiovascular exercise program. Also monitor your heart rate and check for high blood pressure symptons as you exercise.
