Benefits of echinacea

Echinacea is also known as the purple coneflower, which also is a part of the Aster family. One of the most popular benefits of Echinacea is its ability to strengthen and enhance the immune system of the individual. The other echinacea uses also involve the flower being used for coughs, flu, cold and other such upper respiratory disorders.

Additionally, the Echinacea flower is also used as a natural treatment for medical disorders such as urinary tract infections, herpes, candida, skin infections, wounds, sore throat and enlarged lymph glands and even for inflammatory skin conditions.
Echinacea supplement is commonly used on by many individuals as Echinacea tends to promote the activation of T – cells by stimulating the immune system of the individual. The Echinacea flower is also effective in helping the white blood cells of the body to attack germs.

However most doctors recommend that Echinacea supplement should not be used continuously for too long periods of time as in some research it has shown that over a period of time Echinacea supplements may actually weaken the immune system. Additionally, if Echinacea is used continuously for more than 8 weeks then it tends to lose it effectiveness. An echinacea supplement is however not recommended for those who are allergic to members of the aster family or even pollen in general. Additionally doctors or medical practitioners will also not recommend the use of the echinacea flower as a natural remedy for those people who are suffering from diseases of the immune system such as HIV, tuberculosis and even multiple sclerosis.

One of the main benefits of the Echinacea flower or supplement that it tends to be very useful in reducing the symptoms that are typically associated with a cold or the flu and in fact it also tends to reduce the time that one tends to suffer from the side effects of flu and cold. Echinacea when combined with yarrow, golden seal and cayenne tends to result into an extremely powerful infection fighting formula which even works wonderfully for strep throat and ear aches. However those suffering from hypoglycemia or low blood sugar levels should avoid combining golden seal with Echinacea as golden seal tends to act as a natural source of insulin and hence can be very dangerous for a hypoglycemic person. In some cases, it has been observed that combining Echinacea with Chickweed is also known to be effective in helping with weight loss.
