It is risky. You can eat a vegan diet and get away with it, but you must know what you are doing. One of the things you get from meat is b-vitamins; another is protein. If you are going to pursue a vegan diet, you need to research it thoroughly.
I eat enough meat to get what I need from it because I am far to lazy to do the research.
