For Anyone that Still Smokes

Postby NauticNeighbors » Wed Jun 27, 2012 3:46 am

Almost a year ago today I was smoking about 2 to 3 cigarettes per day, and buying 2 or 3 packs per week. I used to talk about how I was going to quit, but the truth is I really kind of liked smoking.
Well I decided to quit and get my act together. It only took about 2 or 3 months to get 4 years of smoking out of my system, but I still had some cravings.
Now cue to me a year after I stopped smoking and I really can't stand the stuff now. Its funny because I just got back from a Casino vacation that I felt was literally ruined by all of the thick smoke. There were no non smoking Casinos in all of the area
A part of me felt like really :x and bothered by the smoking. Another part of me just felt sort of sad  , cause I'll never get that relaxing feeling again. It just doesn't do anything for me anymore.

To anyone that smokes take it from me: you can quit...for good.

Congratulations, man! Always glad to hear people quit their bad habbits.
I used to smoke too (just for a year or so), but I figured that it's just a waste of health and money. I can't even imagine myself holding a cigarette now :D

I was the same as you, I enjoyed smoking. I smoked no more than 5 roll ups per day (the equivalent of 2-3 cigarettes). I decided to quit for health reasons, I found it quite easy. The first week is very hard, the second week is slightly easier and after that you are free from the cravings.

I'm just curious. I'm assuming that both of you are under the age of 30, 35 tops. What even made you start smoking? I can't imagine that you hadn't heard of the many dangers and addictive proponents of smoking, so what could make that an appealing thing to do?

I will admit that with some people, the act of smoking looks incredibly cool, but that isn't enough to counter all of the other drawbacks. Do you even know or remember what drew you to it? This is a serious post as I just don't get it with young people.

Congratulations! I find it funny how you find it nasty now, too! I can't stand being around cigarette smoke. It's just nasty. I need to show my mom this. She's been quitting on and off, but hasn't stopped completely yet. It frustrates me.

I am 25. I went through a rebellious phase towards the end of my school years, I started smoking weed. I ended up smoking weed every day for years, I then quite smoking weed and smoked roll ups instead.

I remember when I first tried smoking cigarettes, I must have been about 12. My friends and I met up after school and asked passers by to buy us cigarettes. We went into the park, hid behind the bushes and took turned on a cigarette. We did it because it was exciting and something we shouldn't be doing.

First off, congratulations for decided to take the big step and quit, it really takes a lot of dedication and discipline. No disrespect to your past decisions, but it boggles my mind that people still smoke after all these years of educations, warnings, etc. You would think smoking would be on the way out, but unfortunately it is not and probably will never be.

I have smoked three full cigarettes in my life. I wanted to see what the allure was and not one time could I figure it out. There is no good flavor to it, like grape or cherry  and it just seemed pointless. From what I could see, you actually have to make an effort to even want to keep smoking the things.
