Getting tighter abs after c-section.

Postby Britwade » Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:01 pm

Hello I have always been on the thinner side even after having kids. My problem lies with tightening up my abdomen around my C-section scar. I have tried situps, crunches whatever. It is the area where my trouble lies. Anybody have any experience with this?

I have not personally had a c-section, although I do have 2 children. I have heard from my sister and friends who have had a c-section that to tighten that up, pilates or yoga worked well. I personally love doing both of those and just pregnancy really messes up the whole stomach area. If you give it a try, I hope it helps!

This can be hard after you have a csection. You have to try various exercises to hit the muscles here. It is not one muscle but a group of muscles you have to exercise. You should try doing some yoga and pilates. I know that is great for getting things in shape. Take a look at an avid yogi. DO you see any flabby tummies? No way Jose.

To tighten up your abs you will need to lose fat, this will give your abs the 'tight' appearance. You can't actually tighten your abs, you can build your abs and lose fat to make them appear more defined. Crunches and sit ups are not good abdominal exercises. Try planks and leg raises.

That's good advice. However, women who have had a csection often complain about this pooch. Many are otherwise lean. It can be hard to target the area using traditional crunches and situps. Planks are pretty good and don't put that strain on your neck and back.

I will have to let my wife know about this! She is battling the same problem! Our son is 6 and she is losing the weight, which you probably know after a C-section is nearly impossible. However, the weight is not helping her abs to look better.

The best way is to strengthen your obliques and lose body fat. If you still have scaring, there are creams out there than can help with that.

I have both of those problems. I have scars and some extra fat. I am working on getting rid of both. Thankfully my boyfriend doesn't mind my scars.

I have had the same issue as well. I know the weight loss here on the abs is nearly impossible! With my first one I did not have an issue, but the second one with the C-Section it has hung around for several years now and really ticks me off@!

I have also heard that pilates is the way to go to tighted up abs after pregnancy and c-section deliveries. I have not yet started doing this but have plans to add a pilates regimine into my daily workout routine for overall toning without bulking up.
