Fan of TaeKwonDo !

Postby Bodybuild » Thu May 31, 2012 4:46 pm

Having been with TaeKwonDo for over 20 years, I am a fan. It is a Korean martial art using punches and kicks. It includes very rigorous endurance training (called "dallyon") and requires a very high level of fitness and flexibility (not yet in full front split but working on it). Have you practiced TaeKwonDo ? Do you enjoy it ?

I have never practiced this before. However, I would like to know if it impacts your back really bad? I have a broken back and cannot do much because I have limited flexibility. Would I still be able to do this?

Waynefire, I would not recommend it. It is a martial art and as such there is to much risk that your back would suffer ... sorry ... I would imagine that there are better sports for one with a back issue. Have you tried swimming ? The experience I have from swimming is that it is very gentle to your body ..
Let me know, happy to help !

I will watch it during the Olympics. However, they do not have it on very much where I live so my exposure to this is minimal.

You're absolutely right, I actually prefer to watch online than on TV because there's more sports you can choose from. It's nice to see some spinning back kick perfected by these athletes.

I am still a white belter because I just recently enrolled in a taekwando class. I plan on getting a black belt soon once I have enough money and experience to join taekwando fights. I'm praying that this would happen soon.

Thank you for the information about the back. Swimming does help me relax more and I think it is mainly because my muscles have a chance to relax more and I am buoyant.

I have always been an avid fan of martial arts, and am also currently a black belt at Karate.

TaeKwonDo has definitely been one of my favourites out of most of the martial arts, as it is very mixed and has a really cool and unique feel to the whole thing.

Glad to see there are people who enjoy TaeKwonDo on this forum

I'm a big fan of taekwondo. Actually, I'm a big fan of a lot of martial arts. But as far as taekwondo goes, I think it's awesome. I don't practice it myself but I have a friend who does and and I've seen him in action with other students. And the things they do are pretty amazing. I mean the demonstrations alone are pretty fun to watch. Aside from aesthetics, it's also good for your health. Like you guys said, it's good for cardio, flexibility, endurance, etc. I've talked with people who are not believers in this martial art. They say muay thai is better, boxing is better, and so on. But we just can't see eye to eye. I mean just look at the ufc. Lots of fighters there are taekwondo practitioners. Anderson Silva(middleweight champion) and Stephan Bonnar(ultimate fighter 1 finalist) just to name a few. Lots of people say that it's a weak martial art but come on. Taekwondo has been around since the 1950's having its base from the South Korean Military. It wouldn't last this long if it sucked. I don't know about you guys. But I wouldn't want angry South Korean soldiers doing crescent kicks, spinning back kicks, roundhouse kicks, and any other kicks going my way.
