Breakfast first !

Postby Bodybuild » Thu May 31, 2012 4:33 pm

Of course, when one think of a diet, it is usually about content, quantity, supplements.
Very rarely is the balance between meals being discussed. Though it is one of the key ingredient of a diet.
Let me ask you how much calorie do you need to sleep at night ?
Now let me ask what is your most important meal, did you say dinner ?
Well most of what you eat for dinner will end up being stored in fat as your body knows sleeps is ... quiet ...
So I am a big adept of "Breakfast first !", meaning that the breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
What is your experience with meal balance ? Do you go for breakfast first ? Would love to hear ..

Definitely.

I have always grown with the idea of eating your breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day as it is what provides you energy for the entire day.

Eating right in this meal is crucial. Obviously, it is advised to keep small portions, but as long as you are eating something for breakfast you should be good.

It ultimately depends on when you are most active, during the day or night. Eating a big breakfast isn't a good idea if you are inactive through the day and most active at night. You should consume the majority of your calories around the workout window, assuming you are exercising - as this is when your body is most receptive to nutrients.
Also, studies on people during Ramadan concluded fasting through the day and feasting late at night had a positive impact on body composition. Debunking the big breakfast-don't eat late myth.

I do like to make breakfast my most important and usually largest meal of the day. I just feel lighter when I eat this way. If I eat a larger meal at night, I wake up feeling heavy and bloated.

I never feel heavy and bloated when I wake up, even if I have a big meal an hour before I sleep. Your body has 8 hours to digest the food during sleep. You shouldn't feel bloated full stop, bloating is caused by the food you are eating, not the time you are eating.

I think it's hard to really take the study on the Muslims observing Ramadan as something to consider an eating style on. Unless it went into detail about how the test group ate prior to Ramadan, you could easily write it off as a switch or shift that is a shock to the body and requires it to respond differently.

Sometimes, switching it up can do wonders and will help break through many plateaus.

The food that is stored in your body during sleep wont necessarily turn to fat. It depends on your activity level and metabolism which everyone is different. I often times eat or drink casein protein before bed to prevent catabolism during sleep.

The nutrients you consume will be used to repair if you train at night. My body fat percentage is in single digits and my biggest meal is often my last meal. I eat nothing for breakfast and I eat a small pre-workout meal, my post-workout meal is huge.

The Ramadan fasters have been studied extensively and the conclusion was that is had a positive effect on body composition. It proves that eating late does not necessarily lead to fat gain in certain circumstances.

I didn't know that about the ramadan. I think it's not just junk science. You can't just wave your hand and dismiss it. It is good to know especially for those who have to change up their eating habits due to work (working graveyard).
