Standing After Eating

Back in high school, two of my friends finished eating after a meal at the one of my friend's house. It was hot so we all decided to take off our shirts. All of us were a bit chubby and we all want to lose weight. Then when we were talking I noticed one of my friend is still standing and my other friend and I are seated down. So I asked him, he told me that standing around 15-20mins after eating helps the body digest the food we ate. Considering that we all have slow metabolisms that's why we are chubby.

Do you think this is true? I actually believe it because my friend was serious when we told me this. Although I don't feel or see any significant difference. What do you think?

I know that walking helps digest your food. The worst thing to do is lie down after you have eaten, it doesn't help things at all.

Not sure, if standing in one spot will help digest food. It would be better if you are moving around a little (walking).

Weight loss/ control is all about calorie intake and expenditure, not about whether you stand or sit after eating. If you burn more calories during the day than you take in, you will lose weight. There's no big secret here or special way to position your body.....

I think staying active would help you burn the calories to lose weight. I can't say just standing would help though. You can also build your metabolism staying busy and active and not sitting around. Anybody who puts their mind to it can get the healthy body they desire. I personally think if you will it to happen, it will happen.

I would think moving around after eating would be ideal. But I guess standing would still be an alternative that would be better than just sitting. It is hard for food to digest it seems when you are sedentary.

No such thing. Your digestion will work wheter you're in a horizontal or vertical position, it doesn't matter one bit. It's all about calories in vs. calories out, not standing up vs. lying down.

That's just a rumor that people listen to and don't bother to figure out if it's real or not. Now, if you're jogging in place, will you burn more than your friends that are sitting down? Yes.

The question here is whether you actually burn more calories by standing then by sitting and I don't know the answer to that either. I know that standing will take more effort than sitting especially the heavier you are. The main thing to do after you eat is burn off the calories so I would say moving around like jogging in place or doing squats or cycling would be a better choice than just standing.

I have thought about this in the past. My mum always used to tell me to sit down when I'm eating, sometimes I felt like standing up. I challenged her and said standing whilst eating is better for digestion. I wonder if this is true, it makes sense theoretically...
