What Is The Best All Around Vegetable

Postby Isabellas2007 » Mon May 28, 2012 3:52 pm

I am sure this is going to stir up some controversy, but what is the best all around vegetable to eat? I know some people will say Broccoli, others carrots. However, I am looking for one which is good all around to help me lose weight, but gain muscle mass at the same time while removing the hunger pangs.

I would go with spinach. Each 1 cup serving contains six times more lutein than romaine lettuce, five times more glutathione than watermelon, plus almost 250 mg of calcium. Studies suggest that these nutrients can speed the loss of belly fat by 81 percent. For the biggest nutrient boost, eat spinach raw or lightly steamed, instead of boiled.

I agree with sugarhill and go with spinich. I don't like it cooked, but I do use it in my salads.

How about good old broccoli? Isn't full of quercetin?

I would say uncooked or baby spinach. Usually when you find measurements for food it is uncooked, that's why the suggestion is to eat it raw or lightly steamed. If you fry or sautee it like I do, you'll probably throw in a lot more than one cup because as soon as you start working with it, is shrinks up so much that you don't even notice that you may have two or three cups in the pan.

Right, that's why I was asking. Sometimes I cook it up with some eggs and jack cheese. Its heaven man.

I would have to go with Broccoli as well mainly because the taste of Spinach is not for me. If I liked the other one, though, I would have to say it would be the top of my list as well.

Wanye, have you ever tried cooking spinach in the combination with other things? Like scrambling it up with some eggs and cheese? Or, even better, a can of salmon, eggs, mushrooms, onions, cheese and spinach.

Also, if you drink smoothies, you can always throw some baby spinach in and let it chopped up with your other ingredients.

There are so many great vegetables. I don't think you can go wrong. I like Kale a lot though because it is high in Vitamin C, Vitamin A and even has Calcium.
