Outdoor workout

Postby shaun » Sun May 27, 2012 12:18 pm

Summer is here, the sun is out, it's a good opportunity to do an outdoor workout. There are lots of exercises you can do outside, I'm thinking of designing one with pull ups (using a tree), press ups, squat jumps, sprints, and crawls. It would look like this:

5 sets pull ups
5 sets push ups
5 sets jumping squats
5 sets sprints
5 minutes of crawls

Looks good. I personally wouldn't do the jumping squats, but that's just because I would be concerned about my knees on concrete or the ground. I try to keep my jumping on surfaces that have some give.

How about some suicides?

The jumping squat is an explosive exercise good for improving your power and general athleticism. You start at the bottom in a squat position and explode off the floor, jumping as high as possible. Jumping squats are also good for activation your CNS.

I wouldn't do this kind of workout on concrete. When I think of an outdoor workout I think of the grass and natural surroundings.

Suicides would be a good addition. You could also do tyre flips, sled drags, farmers walk etc...

I don't think concrete would mix well with these. I think working out on grass would be great. Pushups and pullups would get the blood flowing.

I have one more for you, Shaun. I saw this being done on a show and they were on the beach, but since you have a location for your workout, you can do this there. It's called the Star Drill.

Stand in the middle of an imaginary circle with a medicine ball and run out to eight different spots and back in about 18 seconds with 10 second breaks. Rep scheme should be 3-6 in a row. They looked dead tired by the time they were done and they were in the type of condition that you are in.
