Do You Use Apps for Weight Loss?

Postby SEA81 » Wed May 23, 2012 9:14 pm

I've heard of people using Fitness Pal to help with calorie counting and things like that, but have any of you had any experience with using apps for weight loss? Personally, it seems like such a hassle, but it is nice to be able to look things up on occasion, such as how many carbs are in a banana or whatever...

Yes, I do. It's only a hassle if you don't take the time from the beginning to set up your foods properly. I have custom labels for the bulk of the foods that I eat, so as I go along the day, it really is just a quick press of a button and then I'm on my way.

I think they help a lot, but you have to be willing to give up some time in the beginning to save time over the long run.

I keep a notebook of what I'm eating and count the carbs, calories, etc.

Are you using Fitness Pal or something else?

It takes some time to set up but once you have all your information set up and going, it isn't really that hard to keep up with.

No, I didn't like MyFitnessPal. I am using MyNetDiary. It has a web app and one for both Android and the iPhone. I liked all of the things that I could track with it.

If you want something free though, you can look for Lose It! I like that one also. I use that on my tablet. I like the increased real estate for that app.

Actually I did not even know they had programs like this. It sounds interesting for those that are careful counters, but I eat such a varied diet and do not weigh everything out that it would not make it useful for me.

If you put in the time from the beginning to set everything up, like an overview of what you like to eat and portions that you eat, the ongoing process becomes that much simpler. For example, you can make a meal that is saved, so when you have that meal, you select it and keep it moving.

I use the app made by spark people. I find it really useful for keeping track of what I am taking in. When I am not using the app, I KNOW I end up taking in more calories by guessing. I always tend to underestimate. I also use mapmyride for to keep track of my fitness (running, walking, cycling).
