No Area on Fasting?

Postby NauticNeighbors » Tue May 22, 2012 2:14 am

I have been noticing a trend with many different vloggers I watch:
Fasting.
I don't know what its about, but I do know that a lot of people are doing it.
What do you think about fasting and working out at the same time?

The health benefits of fasting are starting to be revealed by science, but there is still a lot to learn. Unfortunately, proper experiments are very expensive and there is a lack of funding.

From an evolutionary point of view, fasting makes sense, we would have endured frequent spells without food and our bodies would have adapted to it.

I think it would interesting if any of us were tracking a simpler IF diet and comparing the results. Shaun has a pretty good approach I think. I am going to begin soon.

That is interesting.

Fasting and working out. What type of fasting would this be? What are the hours between not eating?

I suppose it is fine as long as you meet your required amount of calories in a day.

The Leangains rule is generally this. If you are working out in the am fasted you need to take BCAA's. If working out in the PM after you have broken your fast they aren't needed.

I fasted for two days once and i'd say the mental benefits were great. I notice that I didn't crave the junk food, either. Personally, I don't like to work out when I am fasting because I don't have the energy. If I do workout it would be something very easy on my muscles and no cardio.

This is the reason I choose the PM workout plan. I could never do it in the morning. I actually am giving it a shot this week. Last meal around 9pm first at 1pm.

Fasting is really all about the spiritual part of a person. It's not about losing weight. Yes, it's a bonus to lose weight when fasting but it's really about the Spirit and God. Notice that Fasting originated from the Bible because it is used to strengthen the Spirit. No, fasting and exercising can't be combined.

Muslim people do fast during Ramadan and I think there are other religions which fast for spiritual enlightenment. However, for some people it has nothing to do with spirituality, they fast because it is good for you and excellent for losing weight. Studies have proven your fat is metabolised during a fast.
