What Kind of Workouts Do You Do in the Pool?

Postby SEA81 » Sun May 20, 2012 8:42 pm

I've been a swimmer for as long as I can remember, and right now, I have a knee injury so swimming is just about the only thing I can do without pain. I am also not able to swim laps as vigorously as I like to do on a normal day.

What other kind of pool workouts do you guys do?

I haven't been in the pool in quite a while. However I do enjoy the buoyancy of the water. It helps you avoid the stress on the joints. I have sometimes just waited on the side and held onto the edge. I would exercise by kicking my legs.

I think just doing freestyle swimming is a great workout. Do as many as you can and go from there. Can't wait to go to the pool this summer. The resistance of the water is great for your muscles im thinking.

The only exercise I do in the pool is swimming. I don't really see the point in doing any other exercise when you can swim. When I swim I use the three main strokes - breaststroke, backstroke, and the front crawl. I usually do 10-20 lengths for each stroke.

Depending on how long you can hold your breath, you can go under the surface, and throw punches, kicks and knees as a way to build strength.

I'm not much of a swimmer, but this is one of the reasons why I would reconsider getting a gym membership. Just to workout in a pool and do these types of things two or three times a week. That and running in a pool.

This was exactly what I was thinking. I think freestyle swimming is your best workout and it is probably the most entertaining. I rarely go to the lap pool just to swim back and forth. I usually go into the regular pool and swim freely around with other people.
