Charlie Sheen Celebrity Workout

This was for the movie Hot Shots. This is more for interest but be my guest and surprise us!

The actor's goal was to resemble Stallone in Rambo II and III -- no small feat, since both actors have a different frame and Charlie is not known for being muscular, nor disciplined for that matter. He still managed to muster enough determination (with the help of the late K.R. "Panther" Thomas) to follow this cross-training routine, six days a week for five weeks :

Morning
Sheen would get up at 5am and run three to four miles, then have a protein shake for breakfast. Next came 90 minutes of martial arts training -- Chinese wushu and Chinese boxing -- followed by a 30-minute rest. Finally, he would end the morning with 90 minutes to two hours of basic weight training.

Afternoon
Lunch was typically made up of broiled fish or chicken and steamed vegetables, followed by a massage and whirlpool (damn celebrities...). After that, he had one more hour of martial arts -- he was preparing for the opening fight scene in Hot Shots . Another 30 minutes of rest followed, then 90 minutes of yoga.

Finally, he did another hour and a half of weight training, so in a sense he also had a double split bodybuilding cycle like Stallone. Dinner was a lighter version of lunch and he was in bed by 9:30 or 10pm.

Some of celebrities are real some are gimmicks. A lot of people just use those names for workouts that celebrities don't even use! It's best not to try and imitate some famous person. Mens health has some good stuff but there's alot of junk there as well.

Are you implying that Charlie Sheen did not do this workout?

This doesn't correspond with his rock and roll image. I thought he would be having cocaine and champagne for breakfast.

His routine looks like a good way to overtrain quickly, far too much exercise. Finishing the day with 1 hour and 30 minutes of weight training. Weight training beyond 45 minutes is counterproductive because of the effects of catabolism. Overall, this is not a good routine.

What? After 45 minutes? That doesn't seem right to me. You also have to keep in mind that he had access to the best diet and food he could have, he was a star.

Here's what he looked like: Image

It is right, it is one of the basic laws of weight training. Training beyond 45 minutes is a waste of time because of the effects of catabolism. Glycogen stores will be depleted and the muscles will be broken down too far - downregulating the pathways for protein synthesis.

I've never heard that but I'm not saying it's not true. Where'd you get this information?

Can you describe what catabolism is exactly?

This is rather funny actually! Can you imagine if he did that work out now instead of what he did in Vegas? He would be in great shape all the time!

Yeah, he'd be jacked..he doesn't even look that bad for a cokehead. He is very rich though...

I can't lie, wish I had his royalty checks and cash situation in general. I don't think he ever stopped making cash after he quit his job.

Catabolism is the opposite of anabolism (growing). To sum it up in basic terms, it means your body is eating itself for calories. The proteins are broken down, muscle wasting. When you train you are in a catabolic state, the aim is to cause microtrauma in the muscle fibers and then rebuild the muscle with rest and nutrition.
